The hardware, plainly
The system is an aluminum channel, matched to your trim color, with the LEDs running inside it. The channel does two jobs at once: it holds the lights and it hides them. Matched to the trim, it reads as part of the house at noon.
Not every edge needs it
Every plan begins at the main roofline, and works outward. Gables, dormers, porch edges, columns and second story lines all get considered, but not all of them get used. Lighting every edge on a house flattens it.Look along a completed run from one end, because a line that stays true over that distance is the mark of a careful install.
The noon test
The hardware stays up, so the daytime look is part of the product. Matching the channel to your trim color is not a cosmetic afterthought, it is what keeps the front of the home from looking decorated in summer. Tight to the line, matched to trim, wiring concealed: that is a clean install.
One line, several jobs
After install the system runs from your phone. Plain white most nights, color when there is a reason, on a timer so nobody has to remember. Most owners settle on a single warm white, using color for the handful of days that call for it.
Why quotes vary
Two houses on the same street can quote well apart. Linear feet is the obvious factor, but it is not the main one. Complexity is what drives it: a simple gable runs fast, and a roof with six changes of direction, three dormers and a turret does not. Height is the third factor, since upper runs need different access.
Does it attach to the gutter?
Homeowners expect it to hang off the gutter, because that is how seasonal strands work. The channel mounts to structure, not to a hanging piece of aluminum full of water half the year. That distinction matters because gutters move, sag and get replaced, and anything fastened to one inherits its problems.
